Brother bother for Chris

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE

GEELONG coach Chris Scott says his natural interest in brother Brad Scott’s North Melbourne side has him well aware of the Kangaroos’ strengths this season.

But that does not mean the Cats will be any better prepared to counter what the sixth-placed Roos throw at them on Saturday.

The Roos sit just 3.5 per cent behind the fifth-placed Cats, with both sides 7-4 at the halfway point of the season.

The Scott brothers have coached against each other 11 times, with Chris leading 6-5.

Scott said the Roos had exceeded his own pre-season expectations.

“They look good. I didn’t expect it, I’m not sure they expected to be playing as well as they are right at the moment,” Scott said on AFL360 last night.

“I watch them a little more than most other clubs because I’m watching my twin brother’s team, so I feel like I understand what they do well.

“I’m not sure how to stop some of it at the moment, we’ve got some work to do. We’ll have to play very well to match them.”

Gary Ablett found a bit of form against his former side Gold Coast, amassing 37 touches and three goals in the 85-point win.

Scott said the negative reception might have played into the Little Master’s hands.

“I think that’s the best game he’s played for us,” he said.

“It’s always a risk when you boo good players because you find yourself booing a lot, which is generally not a great sign because he keeps getting the ball.”
