Warrior’s six-game ban

Eddy suffers headaches and forced to miss uni exam

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE

BARWON Heads on-baller Braeden Eddy has no memory of the strike by Modewarre’s Troy Anderson that left him knocked out and in the hands of medical staff after Saturday’s win.

Anderson will miss the Warriors’ next six matches after he pleaded guilty to the strike that knocked out Eddy early in the final quarter of the clash at Howard Harmer Oval.

Eddy, who wrote in a statement that he was “not in a pos- ition to attend the hearing”, has been diagnosed with postconcussion syndrome after suffering headaches from the hit that ended his match.

He lay in the room postmatch in a neck brace with paramedics before they took him to hospital and released him on Saturday night.

The former Geelong College student has not worked his part-time job this week and was forced to cancel his university exam on Tuesday.

The midfielder has been ruled out from physical activity for 2-3 weeks and given no timeline on a return to football, and cannot remember the second half of Saturday’s game.

Anderson last night pleaded guilty but said the hit was careless and not intentional.

He was reported by two field umpires and a boundary umpire and yellow carded, and later offered a two-game suspension for striking, which Modewarre accepted.

But Barwon Heads challenged the leniency of the penalty and the tribunal, chaired by Rob Sodomaco, agreed, handing out six games.

Vision shown in the tri- bunal looked as though Anderson hit Eddy to the face with a clenched fist, which umpire Daniel Robinson also described, but Anderson said it was his forearm that knocked out the Seagulls ball winner.

He told the tribunal he was trying to tackle Eddy but his arm slipped high.

But tribunal panel member Ron Drew said the footage look as though the Modewarre footballer punched his opponent in the face.

Anderson is the third senior Modewarre footballer to be suspended this season.
