Keen-eyed Hawk shoots down the Cougars

-

A SHOOTING masterclass from former Melbourne Vixen Kim Commane denied the Geelong Cougars the chance to jump to the top of the VNL Championship ladder.

Commane shot 47 from 50 as Hawks Netball edged out the Cougars 64-60 in Wednesday night’s top-ofthe-table clash.

With many of Cougars players out with ANL commitments, coach Gerard Murphy called on Division 1 players Georgia Finn and Rebecca Kelly to fill the void, and the pair adjusted well to the step up in competition.

The Cougars shot at 91 per cent, with Zanna Woods completing a perfect 19 from 19, with Julia Woolley (19/21) and Sarah Main (22/26) making the most of their chances.

The Cougars now take on MU Lightning at their only home game for the season, next Friday, at Christian College, Highton. IN another top-of-the-table clash, Hawks Netball proved too strong for the Cougars, winning 57-43.

Hannah Van Gemst scored 38 of the Cougars’ goals, as the side welcomed back Kaitlyn Sheringham for her first match of the season, eight weeks after giving birth to her first child.

In the 19-and-under division, it was a welcome return to form for the young Cougars side, defeating Hawks Netball 65-42.

The side has struggled to find form in a tight competition.

Georgia Clark (34/37), Ruby Barkmeyer (20/26) and Darcy McFarlane (9/10) shared the scoring load.
