Ex-Falcon finds warm welcome in den

- LACHIE YOUNG

GEELONG Cougars recruit Emily Post says she has not looked back since making the decision to move from VNL powerhouse City West Falcons this year.

Post was a star through the midcourt for City West but has not missed a beat since joining the Cougars, who are aiming to claim a maiden championship title.

The 2016 VNL Division 1 MVP said she had made a seamless transition to life at her new club, which was helping foster a strong culture on and off the court.

“I am absolutely loving it and I couldn’t fault it to be honest,” Post said.

“It’s a really good environment to be a part of and they’re really focused on the netball on the court and developing us but they also have a really big emphasis on the girls off the court as well.

“It’s about empowering, health and wellbeing, leadership and everyone is so lovely and approachable. It is just run so well, so I’m so glad I’ve come here.”

Post is one of several GFNL players representing the Cougars this season, a move brought about by the desire to help develop local talent and provide a recognisable pathway for elite juniors in the region.

She said it had been an eyeopener training alongside players she normally lined up against on weekends for St Joseph’s.

“It is nice that the majority of us are local and have played in the GFL and have come together,” she said.

“Jules (Julia Woolley) was at Falcons with me but we were never in the same team, so it is nice to play with her this year and then girls like Ruby Horton and Zanna Woods — Tori (Honner), I have always played with at Joeys — but it is nice to play with these girls rather than against them.

“We have all played against each other over the years and now we’ve come together so we’re a completely new team who have either come back to Cougars or up from division one, and then Tori and I coming back from City West Falcons, but it has been nice.”
