‘Best show in town’ may help topple Frankston

SUPERCATS coach Leon O’Neill has promised “the best show in town” in front of the entire club as it looks to turn around some scratchy SEABL form against a star-boosted Frankston on Saturday night.

The Blues managed to send Geelong packing just three weeks ago, but the reverse result is on the cards with an in- timidating atmosphere looming.

All 320 Supercats players will gather for a photo before the main game and O’Neill hopes they bring a raucous noise to help push them towards a position of certainty in a “tight part of the season”.

“With eight games remaining, it’s certainly not panic stations, but you’d like to start putting some wins in the bank now so you don’t have to start worrying about things in the coming weeks,” O’Neill said.

“We’re under no illusions how well we’re going to have to play this weekend, but at the same time, obviously we haven’t peaked, we haven’t played our best basketball yet.”

Missed shots in the paint and simply “not doing the little things to a standard we expect” have cruelled the Supercats in recent weeks and O’Neill urged everyone to lift to allow the likes of rebounding ace John Davis to shine.

“Everybody has got their role and if everybody plays their role, we’re tough. But if people go outside of their role, we struggle,” he said.

Melbourne United signing Dan Trist, who broke out with a stellar 33 points for Frankston against the Centre of Excellence last weekend, will be one rival to contain, while Sam Muldrow is firmly on the radar after a triple-double last time the two team met.

“We’ve got players other team have to worry about too, it’s just a matter of who can put the better performance together on the night and that’s what makes the competition so tough — every team has more than just the two imports. It’s a really deep league,” O’Neill said.

“Hopefully we get back on a winning track. Playing at home this weekend is a big bonus.

“We put on the best show in the league, we like to think, and that will hopefully add to a couple more points our way.”

Winning momentum would be ideal going into an ominous task away on Sunday against a stacked Kilsyth Cobras, who will be well-rested for the clash.
