Windsor ditches bail bid
Trafficking charges: Mark Thompson’s co-accused in court
THE housemate and coaccused of Mark “Bomber” Thompson has ditched his bid to be released on bail.
Thomas Windsor had been scheduled to continue a bail application in Geelong Magistrates’ Court yesterday, but his lawyer told the court they were not going ahead with the attempt.
The 28-year-old initially applied for bail in April, but the case was adjourned to yesterday to allow Mr Windsor’s legal team to call more evidence.
At the previous hearing, defence barrister Philip Dunn, QC, said Mr Windsor would attend a drug rehabilitation centre in Melbourne if granted bail, before ultimately residing with his brother in Curlewis.
No reason was given in court yesterday for the decision to withdraw the bail application.
Mr Windsor is facing multiple charges including counts of trafficking commercial quantities of amphetamine and ice, as well as trafficking ecstasy.
The father of one has been in custody since January 5 when police raided a Port Melbourne home he was sharing with Thompson.
Detectives allegedly found a range of drugs inside the property, including 839.7g of MDMA.
Thompson — a two-time AFL premiership-winning coach with Geelong — has been charged with drug traf- ficking, but is out on bail.
Mr Windsor’s lawyer, Pietro Melasecca, told the court yesterday tests were still being carried out on the commercial quantity of drugs found at the home.
Mr Melasecca said if the commercial charges were dropped, there was a “giant possibility” his client would be sentenced to time already served and immediately walk from custody.
“In my opinion, he does hold … a viable defence. It’s possible he could beat the most serious charge which is in the indictable stream,” he said.
Magistrate Peter Mellas said the case was likely to take “months” to resolve and he adjourned it to the Melbourne County Court in August.
