Footy race slur complaint
A COACH has reportedly stood down for two matches after a racial vilification claim in a recent underage football match.
A complaint was made after a local game this month, with the matter resolved between the two clubs, according to K rock Football.
The clubs resolved the issue without it going to formal mediation.
Due to the “strictly confidential” nature of the matter, including the involvement of a minor, no club or person involved has been named.
AFL Barwon yesterday provided the Geelong Advertiser with a statement on the matter.
“AFL Barwon last week was made aware of a complaint that falls under AFL Victoria’s Vilification & Discrimination Policy,” the statement read.
“As part of the policy, the parties can attempt an informal resolution, which AFL Barwon encourages.
“Both parties met and an informal resolution was achieved and an investigation did not need to take place.
“With respect to both parties, the policy states confidentiality needs to be maintained throughout the process.
“As part of the informal resolution, vilification and discrimination training will take place for the parties involved.
“All clubs, if they wish, can seek support around education on this matter or a number of other areas through AFL Barwon.
“AFL Barwon will continue to monitor and educate any league participant or club official that engages in conduct which may reasonably be considered to incite hatred towards, contempt for, ridicule of or discriminate against a person or group of persons on the ground of their race, religion, gender, colour, sexual preference, orientation or identity; or special ability or disability.”
