MAIL TO MP DELIVERS A WIN

- HARRISON TIPPET

A SIMPLE letter to a local MP has delivered for a new estate on the Bellarine.

Australia Post has announced it will launch street mail delivery service to Baywater Estate in Curlewis from July 2 — more than two years since residents first moved in.

The move comes after a homeowner wrote to Corio federal Labor MP Richard Marles raising concerns with the lack of service.

The letter was then forwarded to Australia Post with a request for its response.

“We currently deliver mail to residents in Baywater Estate through the Drysdale Post Office, where residents collect their mail over the counter or via a post office box that is provided at a reduced rate,” the response from an Australia Post liaison read.

“After a recent further review, Australia Post is pleased to advise that residential development has continued to a point whereby we are now in a position to introduce street mail delivery and parcel delivery service to the area.”

Australia Post delivery manager for Bellarine Russell Hyland said residents would now need to install letterboxes to help their new postie Linda and delivery driver Karen get started on July 2.

“Please look out for them when reversing out of your driveway, keep your letterboxes and footpaths free of obstacles and please keep your dogs secure and away from the letterbox and path to your front door,” Mr Hyland said.
