Jovic will be icing on Joeys’ cake

ST JOSEPH’S coach Emily Post says recent results against top three teams St Albans and St Mary’s have given her optimism for the second half of the season.

Joeys fell by just four goals to the Supersaints last week and lost by eight to St Mary’s the week before, but Post said with ANL star Molly Jovic due to return after the league bye, there were positive signs things were turning around at Drew Reserve.

“We’re just improving every week and we don’t even have Molly Jovic back yet,” Post said.

“So if we’re four goals away from St Albans and we don’t have our full team that is a really good sign.

“Obviously we would rather win those games, but at the same time we’re taking the positives out of what we’re doing and we feel we’re on the right track.

“I think we’re getting more consistent across four quarters which is allowing us to stay in games … so now it is just picking the moment to win those games.”

St Joseph’s takes on Leopold today in a match that could determine whether it is still in the finals hunt when Jovic, who will be one of several GFL players to return to their local clubs after the break, is available for selection.

Post said in such an even year she was confident her side could still have an impact if it was in contention for a top-five finish.

“This year is a funny one because it is really anyone’s game,” she said.

“It is more on par this year, so for us to get Molly back after the bye weekend it puts us in really good stead for the last half of the season because she makes a massive difference to our team. Obviously someone from the ANL is going to make a difference.”

Leopold sits fifth, one game clear of St Joseph’s, and hosts Joeys at Memorial Park, with the match commencing at 1.35pm.
