The talent’s there, and so is the belief

- THE KIT MAN

WHILE there is a chance there is always belief.

That’s the feeling in the Socceroos camp heading into our must-win game against Peru on Wednesday morning.

Our 1-1 draw with Denmark on Thursday night means we have to beat the South American nation and rely on the Danes losing to France to go through to the second round.

It’s possible and we know we can do it.

Our performance against Denmark was full of merit. We really should have won that game, we had enough chances but things just didn’t go our way.

Mile Jedinak scored our goal from the penalty spot. He is an unbelievably strong character with nerves of steel.

He is a leader and all the boys look to him for answers. He delivers time and time again.

The fact he is 15 from 15 from the penalty spot says all you need to know about Mile.

We also should have got a point against France in our first game. We really could have had four points to our name already.

But we don’t. That’s just the unfortunate nature of the game.

Manager Bert van Marwijk was very proud of the effort by the team against Denmark. He said the boys had done everything he asked them to do.

There’s not much more you can do other than that.

Bert is now focused on getting us three points against Peru.

There is belief in the group that we can still make it through.

The boys know they can only control what’s in front of them. That’s beating Peru and keeping our fingers crossed the French do us a favour.

It’s going to be a thrilling climax to the group stage.
