FLORENCE IS COMING

- JEMMA RYAN

INTERNATIONAL act Florence and The Machine is set to headline a show at Geelong’s Mt Duneed Estate, kicking off a new season of A Day On The Green events.

The one-off performance on January 19 will form part of the UK band’s sixth national tour.

Headed by vocal powerhouse Florence Welch, pictured, the group has produced a slew of worldwide hits including, You’ve Got The Love, Dog Days Are Over, Shake It Out, Spectrum (Say My Name), and Never Let Me Go.

The band’s return to Australia will be the first since its sold-out November 2015 tour which featured four back-toback Sydney Opera House performances.

Their latest musical offering released globally this week is Big God, the third single from their highly anticipated fourth album, High As Hope, out next Friday (June 29).

Roundhouse Entertainment Promoter Michael Newton said he was thrilled to be bringing another worldclass act to Geelong for 20,000 people to enjoy.

“I can’t think of a better way to kick off our new season than with a superstar and extraordinary performer like Florence and The Machine,” he said.

“We’ve worked with the people that are bringing Florence out before, with Elton John and Robbie Williams. It was very cool for us to see that our hard work down there is paying off and we are able to get the caliber of artist like Florence. “I think it will sell out.” The Geelong show will also feature special guests Marlon Williams and 16year-old breakout artist, Billie Eilish.

Earlier this year Eilish played her debut Australian shows at Laneway Festival and two sold-out headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne.

Her latest single, Lovely, with Khalid, has already gone gold in Australia and clocked up more than 97 million streams.

Mr Newton said further A Day On The Green shows will be announced in coming months, with something for everyone in store.

“After 18 years and 453 shows, we look forward to continue to bring diverse line-ups and some of the world’s biggest acts to regional venues across the country,” he said.

“It’s a tough business, there is a lot of competition but … the future (of ADOTG) looks rosy, it looks positive — not without a lot of work to get to that situation.”

Tickets for Florence and The Machine’s show are $109.90 for general admission and $139.90 for front general admission.

Tickets go on sale on Thursday at noon from ticketmaster.com.au.
