If Carji was held now, who would be the top three?

Tom Stewart, Joel Selwood, Mark Blicavs in no particular order.

The doomsday scenario

Geelong making it all the way through to another preliminary final, but falling just short ... again.

The glass half-full

Rhys Stanley to continue his recent form with more of the same in the second half of the season and into finals. If he does that then Geelong is a big chance of going all the way.

If the Cats could pick one player from a rival club right now, who would it be and why?

Pick one of Brodie Grundy or Max Gawn and run with them. Given how up and down Geelong’s ruckmen have been this year, locking away a consistent high performer could be the difference between a preliminary final and a premiership. Geelong’s star-studded midfield would thrive with Gawn or Grundy in the team.

For Geelong to win the premiership this year ...

It must keep all of its stars fit and firing. There’s no doubt Geelong’s list has enough talent to go very, very deep in September, but to actually go on and win it is reliant on the big names having an impact. We have seen in the previous two seasons how important momentum is heading into finals and if the likes of Selwood, Ablett, Dangerfield, Duncan, Hawkins and co are all at their peak then the Cats will be very hard to stop.
