Call to stamp out ‘terrible patches’

- WILL HOGAN SEABL WOMEN

LADY Supercats coach David Herbert says his side needs to stamp out their “terrible patches” ahead of a tough run home if they are to cement their place in the SEABL finals.

The Lady Supercats split their weekend with a win over Frankston at the Arena on Saturday night coupled with a loss to Kilsyth yesterday despite matching it with the third-placed side for the majority of the game.

Herbert said for three quarters against Kilsyth his side showed the brilliance that they are capable of however a poor second quarter proved the difference between the two sides.

A fast start by Kilsyth hindered the Supercats chances of an upset win with the Cobras jumping out to a 15point lead at the main break.

A superb third quarter on the defensive end restricting Kilsyth to 11 points wasn’t enough as the Cobras held on to a 73 — 67 win.

“We played a terrible second quarter, which gave them a 15-point lead and it’s pretty hard to comeback against a team like that when you’re trailing by so much,” Herbert said.

“I thought our first quarter of the game was one of the best of the year and then our second quarter we just fell apart.”

Isa Brancatisano was solid once again shooting 14 points including three from beyond the arc. Ebony Rolph backed up her brilliant effort from the night before with 15 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Rolph starred against Frankston on the way to a 78 — 72 Lady Supercats victory.

She had 24 points and a huge 16 rebounds in the crucial win while Angela Duck chimed in with 11 points and nine assists.

“Ebony Rolph was great across the whole weekend,” Herbert said.

“I thought she made a real statement that she’s legitimate and one of the best players in the competition.”

The Lady Supercats remain in the battle for a spot inside the final eight, currently sitting on nine wins and seven losses among a collection of teams with a similar win/loss ratio.

With Bendigo (twice), Melbourne, Canberra and Kilsyth again to come on the road to finals, Herbert said the Supercats are going to have to turn glimpses into some form of consistency if they are going to be a contender.

“We have a tough run home, we have to beat those better teams or we’re not going to make it,” he said.

“There are glimpses of a lot of improvement but we’re not quite there.

“I know we can beat the ‘Bendigos’, the ‘Kilsyths’ and the ‘ Nunawadings’ of the league, we just have to play for 40 minutes, we have to work harder.”
