HUNGRY HARRY

Taylor’s back and hell-bent on helping Cats’ flag push

- NICK WADE

HARRY Taylor is determined to “have an influence” in Geelong’s premiership push as he prepares to make his comeback from a foot injury tonight.

The veteran, who has played only three matches this season, will take on the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium after overcoming a long-running plantar fascia problem.

“It’s feeling really good now and hopefully I can have an influence in the back end of the season,” Taylor told the Geelong Advertiser last night.

Taylor was one of three Cats changes, with Cameron Guthrie back after two comeback games in the VFL and lively forward Quinton Narkle to make his debut.

Lincoln McCarthy ( hamstring), Cory Gregson (dropped) and Zach Guthrie (dropped) are out of the side. Taylor last night said he was comfortable playing a support-cast role tonight as the Cats worked out the ideal defensive mix.

Mindful of how well the defence has functioned in his absence, the 32-year-old wants to slide back in without disruption.

“I have to come in and play my role, which is what we expect of every player on the list,” he said. “I’m not there to do anything else. I just want to complement the guys who are doing a really good job at the minute.

“We’re ranked right up there in terms of points against. That’s because of the guys down there who are doing a wonderful job and also the guys in the midfield and forward line as well.

“We all know it’s a team game and it requires everyone on the field working in unison. The backline are doing a fantastic job and my role will be to complement what’s happening at the minute.”

Meanwhile, Geelong’s VFL side is stacked with talent for tomorrow’s clash with Werribee, headlined by the returns of Daniel Menzel and Nakia Cockatoo.
