Local poker ace makes a splash

-

GEELONG poker ace Kahle Burns (pictured) is making a splash at his first run at the big time in Las Vegas.

The 2017 Australian Poker Young Achiever has continued his outstanding form from last year as he takes on the high rollers in the gambling capital.

Burns was the only Australian representative in the $5 million Super High Roller Bowl in May.

It was his debut appearance in the major tournament, which required a large buy-in of $30,000.

“There are obviously financial barriers, and I wouldn’t have been able to play this a few years ago, but I started at the bottom and slowly grinded my way up,” he told media at the event.

Burns made it through to the final 14, but was eliminated before he could collect any prizemoney.

His high-class form has since paid off, securing $120,000 for a third placing at the Venetian Poker Room last month.

He also claimed $29,500 for finishing 10th at a Planet Hollywood main event this week.

The former Deakin student has competed professionally for about a decade, but has become an international star in the past two years.

He struck it big in Macau last October, taking home $1.3 million.

Poker legend Joe Hachem has been full of praise for Burns.

“I personally believe that this young man will be in the Australian Poker Hall of Fame one day when his time is due,” Hachem said.
