Maddern supports hit show’s move here

- JACOB GRAMS

GEELONG favourite and Australian Ninja Warrior host Rebecca Maddern is set to throw her support behind the city if a formal approach is made to make it the show’s new home.

Tourism Greater Geelong boss Roger Grant has pledged to raise the opportunity with Geelong Major Events next week as the Channel 9 show looks all but certain to move from its Sydney base.

Maddern told the Geelong Advertiser it made sense for Geelong to be considered alongside Melbourne to be the home of the course for Season 3.

“Geelong, the more I think about it, would be a very good backdrop down on the waterfront there,” she said.

Maddern said any fans of live events would relish being part of the atmosphere of Australian Ninja Warrior, justifying what some have considered over-the-top reactions from herself and fellow commentators Ben Fordham and Andrew “Freddy” Flintoff. “It is absolutely sensational,” she said. “These are some of the best athletes in Australia, it’s just that we haven’t seen them or haven’t known them because most of them haven’t had a national or world stage.

“I stand there in the commentary box with Ben and Freddy in absolute awe of these people. What they do is extraordinary and all those over-the-top reactions are real. It’s just like you’re at a sporting event.”

Maddern, who was pregnant with bub Ruby when the series now being aired was filmed, said any move back to her home state and hometown would also suit family life.

She said fans would have some returning heroes to look forward to watching when the next episode aired tomorrow night at 7pm on Channel 9.
