Same names, new stars
LUCY Brownless was born into the spotlight, but it wasn’t a given she would embrace it. Much like other children with famous parents, she took time to consider and negotiate her path. Lucy and her younger sister Ruby are modern day influencers, ambassadors and models signed with Precision Models. “It probably did just happen quite organically and because I was exposed to that it definitely helped and you’re shown that whole lifestyle from an early age,’’ Brownless, 22, said. “Some people don’t go down that path either. With us, we’re a really close family and dad is quite grounded and mum is too. “Ruby and I were lucky to have a bit of a platform but now as I get older I want to help empower other women. If you’re passionate, it’s a great opportunity to have a say.” Brownless has ambitions to live overseas and be represented by a US agent. Two weeks ago she applied for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit search, which included posting a video on Instagram.
“That was a huge thing for me but you’ve got to be in it to win it and I’m working towards becoming more open and honest,’’ she said.
“It’s not about your typical stick figure, it’s for women of all shapes and sizes and backgrounds and there’s a lot more to it. It’s about empowering women and it would be a great way to get the ball rolling.”
Brownless admits that sometimes it is frustrating that people have the perception her life is easy.
“People think you have it all and you seem well off,’’ she said.
“I feel I work really hard and try and be nice to everyone. There’s a lot more to it than just having a last name.
“One of the things I struggled with was to be open. I’d love to help other girls and hopefully I can become a role model.”
Eddie McGuire, whose son Xander landed a role on Neighbours two years ago and last week featured on a promo on The Footy Show, said he would encourage his sons if they wanted to pursue a career in media.
“Joe was on the radio the other day doing some interviews for his media project,’’ McGuire said.
“Not being the proud father,
but they thought he shot the lights out. He did well. He’s doing VCE at the moment and keeping all his options open.
“Clearly they’ve grown up in a media household. His dad does media every day, their family owns a media company, they have an aptitude for media.”
Shane Warne said his son Jackson was never pushed into cricket and his interests lie elsewhere. Going by recent buff images posted on his popular Instagram account, he could be more suited to a career on the catwalk.
