Key trio back for Corio as it looks to build momentum

- RYAN REYNOLDS GDFL NETBALL

THE timing could not be better for Corio.

After a season full of unbelievable injuries and unavailabilities, the classy Devils will field their strongest team in weeks in today’s blockbuster with Werribee Centrals.

Corio is the only side to defeat Centrals this season, and having a full-strength squad gives coach Bridgitte Burns confidence her side can hand them their second loss of 2018.

“We have had one of the most uncanniest, unluckiest runs. Things from a broken ankle, to slicing a tendon in the thumb at work . . . and then there’s holidays and unavailabilities with work,” Burns said.

“We have been inconsist- ent with our performances purely through injuries and player availability. We have everyone back this week so we are excited to play them again.

“Momentum is a pretty cool thing and if we can build it at the right time then we will be pretty happy.”

Bonnie Coburn, Olivia Krygger and Alex Mathisen are the three key ins for today’s clash.

The Devils rolled Centrals 36-33 when the two sides met in Round 3, but the Corio coach is taking nothing for granted.

She said Werribee was “a great measuring stick for the competition”, with its experience and height making it hard for opposition teams to get on top.

“They don’t really have a weak spot all the way down the court,” Burns said.

“They have got skill across the whole court.

“We’ve got a few tactics we can focus on to take away that advantage. Netball is like a game of chess, it’s positional and styles of play that combat each other.

“I’d like to say we match up quite well on taller sides as opposed to smaller sides.

“We are looking forward to playing contested, physical netball but also very skilful.”
