Falcons named in All-Aussie squad

reputations in hot conditions in Queensland.

“There is no doubt that Nina being the MVP of the carnival has pushed her right up,” Armistead said.

“I think they were all probably going to get drafted but it has probably meant more clubs will be chasing them now.

“With Geelong having the one and two picks it might depend on who they go for but they have always been on the radar. Nina is probably the one who has only played footy for two years so it’s an amazing effort to get above everyone else.

“Liv and Denby have been in the best 10 or 15 players for Vic Country for the last couple of years, and even Tarryn Love played in the first state game but didn’t go to Queensland, and she played for the Geelong VFLW team on the weekend, so she will be considered for the draft as well.”

It was a successful week for the Falcons on the boys’ front, with Tanner Bruhn named MVP of the under-16s carnival.

Armistead said the girls would now take a slight break before ramping up their training with the Geelong VFLW team.

“Because we started earlier and were training around the start of March, the girls are probably due to have a bit of a rest over the next couple of weeks,” he said.

“Our girls will then most likely continue training with the Geelong VFLW team for the rest of the year and … they might play one or two games for Geelong.

“They still have access to the best facilities and training (environment) but they’re all really great trainers, so I don’t think that will be an issue.”
