ABLETT BABY MANIA!

- JEMMA RYAN

BIG NAMES WEIGH IN ON BIG NEWS:

CATS star Gary Ablett and wife Jordan have received an outpouring of well wishes from family, friends, footballers and fans since announcing they’re expecting a baby.

The couple shared the exciting news on social media on Wednesday night with a photo of ‘Dad’ and ‘Grandad’ Geelong jumpers hanging in the locker rooms.

Former Cats president Frank Costa told the Geelong Advertiser he was “thrilled” for the couple and made no secret of his dream to see a third generation of Ablett running around in the blue-and-white hoops.

“It’s wonderful news. He’s a really fine young man, and I’m not just saying that because he’s playing for Geelong. He’s a really decent guy and has supported his family through lots of tough times,” he said.

“I’m hoping they have a boy, could you imagine a third-generation Ablett playing for Geelong? It would be sensational.

“Although if it’s a girl, we do have a women’s team so they would play for that. There might be a fatherdaughter rule by then.”

Cats skipper Joel Selwood was quick to congratulate the pair on the “sensational news” on social media, as were former teammates Steve Johnson and Mitch Clark, who both have children of their own.

WAGs Demi Miles, Kirsten Clemens, Brit Davis and Emma Hawkins also expressed how happy they were for their friends.

New mum, and Geelong’s number one ticket-holder, Rebecca Maddern shared her excitement for the parents-to-be and sent her best.

Brooke Cotchin, wife of Richmond premiership captain Trent Cotchin, said: “Congratulations!! Such a special time for you both. Enjoy every minute it truly is magical.”

Celebrity stylist Lana Wilkinson, who dressed Jordan for the Brownlow last year, said she was “thrilled” for the pair and model Jesinta Franklin — wife of Buddy — sent her love.

Even Home And Away star Lynne McGranger — who plays Irene — showed her colours commenting, “Fantastic news! Another champion on their way”.

The 34-year-old Ablett said his family had known since May but wanted to keep it a secret for as long as they could.

“It’s hard to put into words just how happy we are,” he said.

“We’re really looking forward to parenthood and everything that comes with it.”

“I’m hoping they have a boy, could you imagine a third generation Ablett playing for Geelong? It would be sensational.” FRANK COSTA
