- OLIVIA SHYING

A NEWTOWN house has been revealed as a possible drug laboratory after an early morning raid by police.

Clandestine laboratory specialists from Melbourne were called into assist Geelong detectives after a possible drug processing kit was allegedly found during the raid yesterday.

Divisional Response Unit police from Corio executed a search warrant at the Elcho Rd property around 10am and allegedly found cannabis plants.

Inspector Gary Bruce said police also uncovered glassware and equipment which would seized by the clan lab detectives for further testing. PowerCor workers were called to the white brick property to cut off the power supply.

“The Divisional Response Unit from Corio has executed a search warrant and located some equipment which could be considered part of a drug processing kit,” Inspector Bruce said.

“We are unsure whether it has been used for this purpose.”

Inspector Bruce said police had also located cannabis but could not say how many plants had been uncovered.

He said a person was assisting police with their inquiries.

The treed property is located in a quiet Newtown street a couple of hundred metres away from a kindergarten.

Investigations are ongoing.
