Young teens accused of bashing, robbery

- RUSTY WOODGER

TWO young teens allegedly bashed another boy during a terrifying robbery in Whittington last weekend.

The pair, aged 13 and 14, are accused of kicking and punching the other teen in the head before stealing his watch.

A police prosecutor told a children’s court yesterday the incident happened about 4.15pm on Sunday when the victim was confronted by the teens.

Both boys are accused of punching the victim repeatedly to the face, before kicking him to the head after he dropped to the ground.

The prosecutor said the victim was “begging” for the attack to stop, before the 14year-old allegedly told the boy, “Give me your watch right now”.

The same boy is then alleged to have said to his co- accused, “Give me the f---ing knife”, before the victim handed over his watch.

Both teens were granted bail in a children’s court yesterday despite opposition from police.

The court heard the robbery was just the start of a number of alleged incidents involving the 14-year-old boy this week.

On Monday, the teen is accused of stealing keys to a car which belonged to a residential care facility he had been living.

He is accused of giving the keys to a female friend, who was later arrested driving the car along with two other females.

After being questioned about the missing keys by the boss of the facility, the boy allegedly said: “I’ll f---ing smash your head in.”

He is also accused of threatening to “smash” two female workers at the facility unless his bag was returned to him.

In opposing bail, the prosecutor said the boy was an unacceptable risk to the public and that police held concerns for the safety of the robbery victim.

But a magistrate chose to grant bail on conditions that the boy live with his grandmother and not associate with any co-accused.

The boy must also abide by a night-time curfew.

Both teens will return to court next month.
