Scam warning for big Geelong gig

- OLIVIA SHYING

FANS of international act Florence and the Machine have been warned not to buy tickets through unauthorised sellers or scalpers after reports of people paying inflated prices for non-existent seats.

A Day on the Green’s highly anticipated headline act will perform a one-off show at Geelong’s Mt Duneed Estate.

Headed by vocal powerhouse Florence Welch, pictured, the group has produced a slew of worldwide hits including You’ve Got The Love, Dog Days Are Over, Shake It Out, Spectrum (Say My Name), and Never Let Me Go.

The band’s return to Australia will be the first since its sold-out November 2015 tour that featured four backto-back Sydney Opera House performances.

Tickets to the show sold out quickly and now organisers are warning of scammers taking advantage of diehard fans.

Organisers have warned fans to purchase tickets only from authorised seller Ticketmaster and not from any other outlets such as resale site Viagogo or members of the public.

“We have recently been made aware of people paying excessively inflated prices for tickets or paying people direct for tickets that simply do not exist,” organisers said in a statement.

“We really cannot stress this enough — fans buying tickets to shows presented by a Day on the Green are warned not to buy tickets from unauthorised operators.

“We hate seeing fans pay inflated prices for tickets or turned away because their ticket isn’t valid.”

Organisers have also warned of sites offering 100 per cent money back guarantees.

“We constantly see disappointed fans turned away at the door when they present tickets which have either been cancelled, sold multiple times, or are complete fakes,” they said.

“Not only is it a waste of money, it’s simply heartbreaking for fans when this happens — particularly right outside the venue door.”

Organisers said if people showed up at the concert with invalid tickets they would not be able to be reissued. “Our only advice is: simply don’t do it.”

The Geelong show will feature special guest, 16year-old breakout artist, Billie Eilish with additional acts to be announced soon.

Earlier this year Eilish played her debut Australian shows at Laneway Festival and two sold-out shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
