Time for Dragons to fire up

- LACHIE YOUNG GFL

BOUNCING back from a loss might be tough, but Bell Park coach Kaitlyn Sheringham knows the challenge for her side on Saturday is how it responds to last week’s thumping win over North Shore.

The Dragons could not have been more emphatic against the Seagulls, claiming a 107-12 victory and increasing its percentage from 107 to 123 in the process.

But Sheringham said despite the lopsided contest she was confident her team would not become complacent this weekend when it faces powerhouse outfit St Albans.

“We focus mainly on us, so we still try to put in place what we wanted to put out on court and we were able to do that. That was really pleasing and we obviously got a good win and some confidence with that,” Sheringham said.

“We were able to put those things that we have been doing at training in place and it looked good on court. We were able to try a few different combinations as well, so if things aren’t going to plan on Saturday we have got that option that we can make changes and know that the girls are ready to go on and perform.

“It was a good game and a good hitout, but we concentrated on ourselves mainly just to get some structures in place.”

Bell Park has one of the more imposing draws to finish the season, with the Supersaints clash followed up by games against Colac, New- town, South Barwon and St Joseph’s.

Sheringham said the key to pushing into the top five for the Dragons was taking every opportunity that presented itself in the next five weeks.

“I think we’re only a game out of the five but there are a few teams sitting like that so it is really important that we stay focused and each game is probably like a final for us now,” she said.

“We can’t really afford to lose and we have to try to get those wins. We are coming into some good form though, so the confidence is there in the group and we have played some good netball.

“Hopefully we can continue that and get the wins when we need them. I think every team is gettable as long as you’re playing and performing as a team and putting your best netball out there.

“Talking to some of the South Barwon girls, the St Albans game was a good hitout (last week) so it will be tough for us but I have got every confidence we can get away with the win.”
