Forssman in good spirits going home

- NICK WADE

WINCHELSEA coach Brendan Forssman is upbeat and heading home after having surgery last week to remove a cancerous tumour in his bowel.

The highly regarded coach was operated on last Wednesday after scans revealed the cancer earlier this month.

“A massive thank you to everyone who has called, sent messages, cards, provided food and for your amazing support and encouragement to myself and my family over the past couple of weeks,” Forssman wrote in a Facebook post yesterday morning.

“I’m really pleased to let you know that I’m in great spirits and have recovered sufficiently enough to be heading home later today.

“To my surgeon and all the staff at St John of God Hospi- tal, nothing but gratitude for everyone involved in the way I have been looked after.

“I look forward to annoying Jo, Hayden and Bailey at home, and catching up with everyone over the course of the next few weeks as recovery continues.

“Again, thanks so much for your well wishes.”

The Blues have told Forssman there is no rush for him to return to coaching, but know the motivated coach will be determined to be back as soon as possible.

Assistants Paul Liistro, Terry Hill and Matt Costello are filling the void until he is ready to make a return.

Winchelsea remains in the mix for finals, despite some recent inconsistent form.

An all-year local sporting figure, Forssman is also heavily involved with Alexander Thomson Cricket Club.
