Sky not the limit for Viva

- HARRISON TIPPET

VIVA Energy has made its official entry into the aviation market.

The major energy company — which owns the Geelong refinery — launched its aviation business from Avalon Airport yesterday, after acquiring Shell’s Australian aviation business last year.

The Viva Energy brand and products will now be introduced at more than 50 airports around Australia, including Avalon Airport where Viva is already the exclusive jet fuel supplier.

Viva Energy chief executive Scott Wyatt said the company, which is already Australia’s largest supplier of jet fuel by volume, was delighted to expand further.

“Viva Energy is excited to expand its aviation business to more than 50 airports around Australia following the acquisition of the aviation business from Shell in 2017,” Mr Wyatt said.

“This investment in our aviation business further demonstrates our commitment to growing our business in Australia and supporting our valued airline customers.

“In fact, every second flight out of Victoria takes off with our locally supplied jet fuel, which accounts for about 10 per cent of all our refinery’s production. A safe and reliable fuel supply is not only essential for Australian airlines and regional airports, but it is also an important contributor to the local economy and for local jobs.”

Corio federal Labor MP Richard Marles welcomed Viva’s ongoing investment in the region.

“Viva Energy’s ongoing investment is a vote of confidence in the growth of the region that will continue to deliver local jobs,” Mr Marles said.

“Their investment in the Geelong Refinery and associated infrastructure projects to provide reliable fuel supply and refuelling services to some of Australia’s busiest airports is good news for the region and indeed the nation.”
