Process the key for Lions

- RYAN REYNOLDS

THE Brisbane Lions will not be taking their new-found form for granted going into today’s clash with Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.

The Lions have won three of their past four and pushed last year’s grand finalist Adelaide last weekend.

But Brisbane skipper Dayne Zorko said they were not focused more on the process needed to perform at their best rather than the four points available for a win.

“The boys are playing really well. We are hoping to build on that,” Zorko said before the Lions’ training session at GMHBA Stadium yesterday.

“We can’t be worried about that (the four points). We have to worry about our approach for the whole four quarters and then hopefully get a result on the back of it.

“We have to get our process right, make sure that we worry about what we have to do and not the result.

“That’s what we have done since the break. We will worry about the way we play.”

The Lions have not won at the Cattery since 2003 when Geelong coach Chris Scott and assistant Nigel Lappin played for Brisbane.

Cats assistants Matthew Scarlett and Corey Enright also featured in blue and white hoops that day.

While the Lions may be 16th with four wins, today looms as one of their better chances to break their GMHBA Stadium curse.

However, Zorko is acutely aware the finals-contending Cats are tough to roll on their home deck.

“They have played some really good football, have beaten some really good teams,” Zorko said.

“They’ve got some really good players we are hoping to match up against. But we will just focus on our own game and execute our system as best as possible.”

The Lions have been boosted by the return of key defender Harris Andrews and veteran Luke Hodge for today’s match.

Andrews is likely to take the job on in-form forward Tom Hawkins, who bagged seven goals in Geelong’s come-frombehind win over Melbourne on Saturday.

The 21-year-old has not featured since suffering a small bleed on the brain after a collision with GWS forward Jeremy Cameron in Round 14.

It is a tough return to footy for a bloke who has missed a month, however Zorko was confident Andrews would be up for the task.

“Harris could have played last week but he probably did the right thing in having the extra week. He is really excited,” he said.

“The back six will have their work cut out against him (Hawkins) and it will be up to us to stop him.”
