JAK’S KNEE SCANS

- ALEX OATES GDFL

INVERLEIGH was last night sweating on the results of scans after star forward Jak Kennedy-Hunt suffered a potential season-ending injury.

Hawks coach Mark McDowell said KennedyHunt had been ruled out of today’s grand final rematch after hurting his knee at training on Thursday night.

While the Hawks believe he has avoided an ACL tear, the setback could still leave him in a race against time to play again this year.

“I’m hoping he’ll be right,” McDowell said.

“We’re not really sure what he’s done yet. I haven’t touched base with him. I’m hoping he’ll be OK, but we won’t know until he gets it checked out.”

Kennedy-Hunt, last year’s Whitley medallist and league leading goalkicker, was to have scans late yesterday.

Regardless of the results, he will not line up against the Panthers at Inverleigh Recreation Reserve.

“It was just an incidental bump,” McDowell said.

“He was going up for a mark and he landed and felt a bit of pain. He wasn’t too sure what he’d done and he wanted to get it checked out and that’s the process we’re going through at the moment.

“If he’s not right, we won’t risk him.”

McDowell said it was too early to determine what damage Kennedy-Hunt had sustained, but he believes the star forward has escaped damage to the ACL.

Still, he could spent up to a month on the sidelines.

“Worst case it might just be bruising to the meniscus from the jarring affect,” the coach said.

“But we won’t know until we get the scans. It might be just a scare and he’ll be OK.” LOCAL FOOTY: PAGE 82-83 all
