BELL PARK STAB DRAMA

- OLIVIA SHYING

A MAN, 43, who allegedly stabbed an acquaintance not far from a school was last night released without charge.

Police cordoned off a large section of McClelland St, Bell Park, yesterday after a man was injured in a violent attack in the middle of the street.

Geelong Acting Sergeant Mick Graham said a 43-yearold Geelong West man and the 40-year-old victim were talking in a McClelland St home when an altercation ensued.

Police allege the fight spilt outside when the older man produced a blade and stabbed the victim.

He fled, leading to a police manhunt.

Paramedics treated the victim for stab wounds to his upper body while detectives and uniformed officers scoured the area and locked down some streets.

Sgt Graham said police found the man in Lily St, about 1.5km away, 20 minutes later.

He said the alleged offender initially tried to hide, but gave himself in when multiple police units arrived at the scene.

The man was arrested and taken to Geelong police station for questioning but was later released without charge pending further inquiries.

Sgt Graham confirmed other occupants of the house were present but said no one else was injured.

The victim was taken to Geelong hospital for observation.

A police media spokeswoman confirmed inquiries were ongoing.
