I DO not always agree with our PM, Malcolm Turnbull.

But I do agree with his assertion that the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, cannot and should not be trusted.

Putin — the quintessential Siberian wolf lookalike — was part of the totally discredited former Communist (Soviet Union) regime for a significant part of his life. He was a foot soldier/officer in its repressive KGB, which was responsible for identifying and eliminating opponents to its murderous past.

Putin has only embraced political change because of the material benefits that have flowed to him following the collapse of the Soviet Union, not because of a root and branch conversion to the democratic process and capitalism.

By report, he is now a multibillionaire ($US70-200 billion) on an official annual presidential salary of less than $A200,000 a year.
