‘Stupid’ thief filmed in act

Jail time for spree

- CHAD VAN ESTROP

AN unlicensed motorcyclist who popped a wheelie at high speed into the path of a police car while trying to get away will spend four months in jail.

Jordan Kenyon’s getaway came unstuck on January 28 when he crashed into a car parked on Thompson Rd, North Geelong, without a helmet, and wearing shorts and a singlet.

The Geelong Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday Kenyon did a runner after the early morning collision but was arrested soon after.

The father-of-three, 23, faced court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to stealing a Holden Commodore, and to a crime spree between February 11 and 12 where he broke into three cars in Hamlyn Heights.

The court heard one homeowner was woken by a neighbour as Kenyon rummaged through a white Toyota Hilux ute parked in his driveway at 7.45am on February 12.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Scott Bell told the court Kenyon stole a knife and digital camera from the ute but fled when he realised the homeowner was recording him.

Sen-Constable Bell said police who were called to the scene and shown the video were able to identify him due a distinctive spray jacket he was wearing.

Police caught Kenyon hiding in cupboard on March 28 at his home in Croatia Place, Norlane.

Police found a Holden sedan he had stolen from Geelong West on February 9. Stolen numberplates were attached to the car, Sen-Constable Bell said.

Officers also found stolen fuel cards, Xanax tablets and GHB, the court heard.

When arrested, he told police his offending was “pretty f---ing stupid” and “pathetic”.

At the time he was on bail for the dangerous driving relating to his efforts on the motorbike on January 28, and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.

Defence lawyer Adrian Paull told the court that while in custody on other matters between October and December 2017, Kenyon had started sports nutrition and personal training courses.

Mr Paull said he had made good progress in his time in a low-security jail.

Magistrate Michael Coghlan jailed him for four months less two weeks already served.
