FARRELL HURT IN SKIING ACCIDENT

-

A PROMINENT Geelong football identity is in hospital following a major skiing accident.

Simon Farrell, who is president of Geelong Amateur Football Club, is understood to have suffered serious injuries while skiing in the state’s Alpine region.

A post on the club’s Facebook page yesterday revealed Farrell was in intensive care at a Wangaratta hospital with multiple broken ribs and internal bleeding.

It said he was due to be flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital yesterday.

“He will be there for a while as they further stabilise his injuries,” the club said.

It was not immediately clear when the incident happened.

Farrell has been at the helm of Geelong Amateur since 2014.

Outside of football, he is the owner and director of Shojun Concrete, while he recently became a part-owner of the Belmont Hotel.

Earlier yesterday, his foot- ball club urged its players and fans to rally behind Farrell.

“He’s pretty tough so we expect a strong recovery from our much loved leader,” it said on Facebook.

“He’s pretty sore but thanks everyone for their thoughts and best wishes.”

Farrell’s social media accounts show a love for the skifields and in 2016 he travelled with Geelong nightclub owner Darren Holroyd to trek to the summit of western Europe’s highest peak, Mont Blanc in France.
