Young Socceroos star to join Rogic at Celtic

-

CELTIC manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed Daniel Arzani is set to join his Socceroos teammate Tom Rogic at the Scottish Premier League champions.

The 19-year-old Arzani — who made three substitute appearances for Australia at the World Cup in Russia — is expected to complete his transfer from A-League side Melbourne City to Manchester City before being farmed out to the Parkhead club for an extended loan period.

Rodgers was asked about Arzani after Celtic began their quest for an eighth successive league title with a convincing 3-1 home win over newly-promoted Livingston.

“He is, I believe, finalising his deal with Manchester City and in talks with ourselves to come in, as a possibility,” Rodgers said of Arzani.

“He is another exciting young talent and we will see if we can get that organised in the next few days.

“It is not going to be (before) midweek. He has just flown in, he hasn’t trained.

“He has obviously been at the World Cup so he will need to be in for a couple of weeks before he gets up to speed.”

Rogic opened the scoring against Livingston and played a key role in The Hoops’ second. Celtic were ahead inside eight minutes when Jonny Hayes, making his first competitive appearance in more than eight months after recovering from injury, crossed for Rogic to head home.

The Aussie playmaker was the architect of the second after 26 minutes as he led a counter-attack and Olivier Ntcham’s cutback was finished by Odsonne Edouard.
