ENRIGHT BUYS CITY PUB WITH MATES
COREY Enright is Geelong’s latest former footballer to kick goals in the world of pub ownership.
The beloved Cat is now a co-owner of the Geelong Hotel, after buying in with mates Mat Dyer, Dean Trembath and Max McKay last month.
It will be the second pub in town taken over by the four mates, who bought The Bush Inn in 2016 and completely transformed the space, renaming it The Inn Hotel.
The former Cats footballer affectionately known as “Boris” said the quartet of mates had grand plans to reinvigorate the Geelong Hotel — including the transformation of the former upstairs club into a live music venue.
Enright said the group was keen to take advantage of the Yarra St venue, particularly with its recognisable name. “It’s a good brand,” Enright said. “And a good place for us to come in and put our spin on it.” “We think it’s a wonderful location” Enright follows in the footsteps of fellow Cats legends Billy Brownless and Cameron Ling, who have both invested in local watering holes.
Brownless took over Newtown’s Cremorne Hotel in 2016, having left South Geelong’s Valley Inn after three years at the helm.
Ling, a top AFL commentator, had a number of business interests through Geelong’s EMC Group, which owns Lambys, Wah Wah Gee, The Pier and Edge.
It is understood Ling has since moved on from the EMC group.
Entering the business world is common for retired and current AFL players, with Cats players no different to the rest.
Injured Cat Aaron Black and his partner Lauren Goder launched their activewear label LA Black earlier this year, while teammates Lachie Henderson and Rhys Stanley launched ICFoods, delivering seafood from the Melbourne Seafood Centre twice a week.
