You can’t spell party without ‘pa’

-

YEP, I’m back … by popular demand. Yay!

After getting so much love after the last time I filled in for Dad, I’ve decided to give him the boot for a while and do what I do best — take over.

Besides, I’ve got my fourth birthday party coming up this weekend and the old boy really needs to get cracking on making sure it’s everything I want it to be.

Despite what Dad may have told you, I’m not the kind of kid who likes to make a fuss. And as far as the party goes, I don’t think I’m asking for much.

Just a dozen of my closest daycare besties, a princess-themed bouncy castle, mind-blowing magic show, helium balloons and a Paw Patrol birthday cake they’ll be talking about for years to come.

But I’m worried Dad’s not going to deliver on all of it.

I didn’t feel the same level of enthusiasm from him when I presented him my simple list of demands a few weeks back. I heard him saying something to Mum about it “costing an arm and a leg” — seems a bit extreme to me, but then Dad does tend to exaggerate. Doesn’t he realise it’s been almost an entire year since my last birthday and that turning four is a major milestone in a girl’s life? Just think about what I’ve achieved in the past 12 months. My fingerpainting has gone to a whole new level, I’ve pretty much got the alphabet down pat and I’m almost counting to 20. At this rate I’ll probably be driving a car, have a degree in advanced mathematics and be pushing my bedtime back to 8pm by the time I’m five.

But like I’ve said before, Dad just doesn’t “get me” like Mum does.

Thank God she took care of the invitations.

She knew I wanted the pink ones with the unicorns on them and she delivered.

I’ve also tasked her with delivering on my birthday present list, which I have complete faith she will.

The big question is: can Dad deliver on the party? I reckon he will. He grumbles a lot about stuff, but he usually comes through with the goods.

Plus, he knows that if he doesn’t there’ll be hell to pay — and I’ll tell you, it’ll cost him a lot more than just an arm and a leg.
