Big-future colt delivers in Geelong

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE

THREE-YEAR-OLD colt More Sundays, the son of champion mare More Joyous, could be set on a Caulfield Guineas path after toying with his rivals in a maiden race at Geelong yesterday.

The regally-bred debutant by Fastnet Rock out of More Joyous started a $2.40 favourite and won comfortably by more than two lengths, with another four lengths to third.

Co-trainer Ben Hayes said the juvenile had a big future.

“This will be the last time you see him in the country,” Hayes, who shares the training duties with his dad David and uncle Tom Dabernig, told Racing.com.

“I think he’s a really nice horse; he could be a sneaky Caulfield Guineas chance. From second he was four lengths off them so they really spaced the field and that normally tells you they’re pretty good.”

More Sundays is the second of More Joyous’s progeny — his older sister Woman (by Frankel) is a one-start winner trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott in Sydney, and both are bred and owned by More Joyous’s enigmatic owner John Singleton and his Stawberry Hill Stud farm.

“He looked smart today; he was very strong through the line,” Hayes said.

“He was a bit green when Jordy (jockey Jordan Childs) asked him to go, but once he gave him a couple over the bum it all clicked late and he was really strong over the line.”

More Joyous won eight Group 1 races and more than $4.5 million in stakes, including the 2012 Doncaster Mile.
