HIGH ST CYCLE STATS DON’T TELL THE WHOLE STORY

-

AS a frequent shopper, coffee drinker and bill-paying ratepayer going to High St, Belmont, I would also like to dispute the figures given by the City of Greater Geelong about the socalled 60-80 bike riders going up Moorabool-High St.

Since this stupid idea came to light about a bike lane up High St l have taken particular notice and counted one bike heading up that hill and at the time I thought how stupid are you.

The obvious place to put a bike lane is in Francis St.

If you come off the bike lane from the river either from the north or south side of the river I would have thought the safest place to ride would be up Francis — less incline, less traffic and most of all, safer.

But oh no, the City of Greater Geelong has done its traffic count, it has to be right. Well guess what, they fib.

We were against a particular business setting up a practice in our area, they did a traffic count and said the figures showed the area could cope with the business there and we would have no worries with parking or even getting a park.

It was absolute rubbish. There are now no parking spaces for householders and to top it off there are time restrictions and guess what — we need a permit to park.

Don’t believe what they say about the traffic count because I think they make it up as they go to suit themselves.

Think of the people that have a business up High St first, not the bike riders, who can easily find a safer quicker route. Chris Little, Waurn Ponds
