Thomson triumphs in tight contest

-

INVERLEIGH 52 v THOMSON 61

SCORES were level at halftime and three-quarter time before Thomson flexed its muscle in a dominant final quarter over Inverleigh in GDFL netball.

Without in-form defender Lauren Conroy, the Tigers found a way to break clear of the Hawks thanks to the efforts of Rebecca Lebish, Hannah Flint and Shannyn Leach.

Thomson slowly edged ahead in the last quarter, with Mackenzie Gorham and Imogen Bennett stepping up to the contest in a high-scoring match.

WERRIBEE 63 v WINCHELSEA 23

THE Centurions set up the win with another impressive team performance.

Ellie Tubbs (37 goals) and Jacinta Savory (18) connected well in the first quarter to set up a 15-goal lead.

The goaling combination changed, with Ellie Vincent adding a new dynamic to the attacking end.

The new combination piled on the goals and Centrals pushed out to a 20-goal lead at half-time. A new look defensive line-up of Amanda O’Malley (GK) was strong on the rebound, while the defence pressure of Lauren Winter (GD) caused plenty of turnovers.

Winchelsea knew it was always going to be a tough day going up against the height of Werribee’s defence without dominant goaler Eliza Cole.

Defensively, Steph Hillman and Sandi Carroll worked hard, and the turnovers fell, but the Blues’ attack struggled to penetrate Werribee’s solid defence.

EAST GEELONG 43 v CORIO 36

EAST Geelong stormed from behind in the final quarter, after a physical yet even match with many lead changes.

Outscoring Corio 15 goals to five in the last quarter, the Eagles locked away their finals spot. Shannon Pietsch (31 goals) was impressive — and shot 11 straight in the last quarter alone. Steph Boyce and Tahlia Billows were both strong in defence, while Hayley Fowler and Claudia Cook rotated throughout centre court, combining with Nikki Everist to give the goalers every opportunity.

For Corio, Olivia Krygger and Holly Milsome worked tirelessly to slow ball movement in the mid court. Shayna Poto suffered a heavy knock in
