MP’S BOMB SCARE

- HARRISON TIPPET

THE bomb squad was called to Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson’s Waurn Ponds office last night after a suspicious item was found in an outside bin. “This is obviously a very concerning and quite frightening situation,” Ms Henderson said.

BOMB squad officers were sent to inspect a “possible suspicious device” found in a bin outside a federal MPs office in Waurn Ponds last night.

The bomb squad, police and CFA were called to respond to a “suspicious item in a bin” on Colac Rd, Waurn Ponds, about 6pm last night — just meters from the office of Corangamite federal Liberal MP Sarah Henderson.

“Police are currently responding to reports of a possible suspicious device at an address on Colac Rd,” Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said last night.

“Emergency services were called to the property just after 6pm and are currently inspecting the object.

“Some roads in the surrounding area will be temporarily blocked as a precaution.”

It is understood Ms Henderson may have been at the Waurn Ponds office when the suspicious item was found, with the federal MP flying to Canberra following the discovery.

Ms Henderson described the find as concerning and frightening when contacted by the Geelong Advertiser.

“I thank police and other emergency services personnel for responding so quickly,” she said

“As this situation is still unfolding, it’s difficult for me to say anything further at this time.”

Bomb squad officers were yet to inspect the item when the Geelong Advertiser went to print last night.
