Sports-smart students find dream career path

-

SPORTS-SMART students are paving their pathways to a promising future, as they complete their final years of secondary school at the Sports Education and Development Australia College.

SEDA offers students the opportunity to complete Year 11 and 12 with Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning qualifications and a Certificate 2 and 3 in Sports and Recreation.

Former student Seth Tomlinson, 20, is one of SEDA Geelong’s latest success stories, currently employed at the Geelong Football Club where he works as the Deakin Cats Community Centre assistant manager and is also working as an assistant in the club’s Next Generation Academy. Mr Tomlinson said the education and opportunities he was able to access through SEDA, set him on a dream career path.

“SEDA changed my life,” Mr Tomlinson said. “I went from being a student that just went through the motions, with no idea what or where I wanted to be post-school, to working full time at an AFL club.

“The industry experience that I was able to gain, the friends that I made, and the once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that I have been able to experience are all thanks to SEDA. “

He said one of the biggest advantages was the link SEDA had with industry partners.

“I was able to put my hand up to volunteer at the club in a range of different departments, which then lead to a placement at the club,” he said. “Without the SEDA program there is no way I’d be in the position that I am in now.”
