It is expected the NDIA will rise to 3400 staff by 2020-21, up from 3138 in 2018-19.

Ms Henderson said she would be briefed on the future of the NDIA when she met the senior minister in her portfolio.

Meanwhile a Newspoll survey released yesterday shows support for the Coalition has plummeted to the lowest levels in a decade.

Data shows the Coalition’s primary vote dropped four points to 33 per cent after a tumultuous week in Canberra.

On primary votes, the Coalition is trailing Labor 33 to 41 in the 24 to 26-year-old category, according to the poll.

The two-party-preferred divide has also blown out, from 49-51 in favour of Labor a fortnight ago to 44-56. A BOAT that ran aground in Queensland is the first people-smuggling operation to reach the Australian coast in almost four years, Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said.

Border Force officials caught 15 people after the boat ran aground off Cape Kimberley, near the Daintree River, on Sunday but between 15 to 30 others, including the vessel’s captain and first mate, are reportedly still on the run.

Despite confusion over whether the group who fled the boat were asylum seekers or illegal fishers, Mr Dutton said it was clear the vessel was part of a peoplesmuggling operation. year-old niece Evie, and nephews Otis, 8, and Mo Maslin, 12, were among 298 people killed on the flight, which was shot down over rebel-held territory in Ukraine on July 17, 2014.
