Festival Hall is no Furphy
LITTLE Creatures Brewery aims to host weddings, parties and corporate events in a new function space at its South Geelong site.
Beer giant Lion has lodged an application to create a new venue called Furphy Festival Hall.
Named after the Geelongbrewed beer, the new hall would host up to 150 people for a range of activities.
“It will be a multipurpose facility for our community to enjoy,” the company said.
“It will be used by the corporate sector (for) conferencing in Geelong, the private sector for social events and … for training, community gatherings, meetings, markets and other events.”
The facility would be established in a currently-empty building in the centre of the Swanston St complex.
About $300,000 worth of works are required to realise the project, including some external demolitions and an increase in carparking on the site by 45 spaces.
Furphy Festival Hall would only operate during the site’s usual trading hours, which run as late as midnight on Friday and Saturdays.
It was not revealed how many jobs the new venture would create.
Little Creatures has developed the 4.4 hectare site several times over the past few years.
The White Rabbit Brewing space was added in 2015, and was granted a permit in April this year to set up an outdoor cinema.
The addition of a third food and beverage space would take the maximum number of patrons on the site to 800.
