Bell Park rising star wins AFL Barwon’s top junior award

HAMISH Lucas has taken out AFL Barwon’s top junior award, claiming the under-17 Division 1 bestand-fairest with 21 votes for the season.

The Bell Park footballer nudged out St Mary’s star Jay Dahlhaus by four votes to take home the medal.

Meanwhile, Lara Cook ball magnet Connor O’Meara was crowned a clear winner of the under-17 Division 2 award.

Bannockbur­n juniors Jake Wood (26 votes) and Callum Hetheringt­on (25) topped the under-17 Division 3 award, while East Geelong’s Sam Roberts won the Division 4 medal.

In under-15s, Herschelle Carr (St Mary’s) and Joel Edwards (St Joseph’s) tied on 28 votes to win the Division 1 award, while Drysdale’s Jeremiah Kalbitzer (Division 2), Barwon Heads’ Zeph Lampard (Division 3), Geelong Amateur’s Zac Norton (Division 4) and Bell Post Hill’s Braiden Leong (Division 5) also went home with medals.

In under-13s, Bannockbur­n’s Sam Warelow (Division 1), Lara’s Francesco Posterino (Division 2) and St Mary’s Oliver Peake (Division 3) claimed league awards, while in Division 4, Modewarre’s Thomas Bartlett finished 13 votes clear of his rivals, and Belmont’s Noah Sneskov won the Division 5 award. Geelong Amateur’s Hugo Hecht claimed the Division 6 award, while Aireys Inlet’s James Day claimed the Division 7 medal.

In the girls’ grades, St Joseph’s Stephanie Williams (under-18 Division 1), Barwon Heads’ Sophie Dineen (under-18 Division 2), Geelong Amateur’s Annie Lee (under-15 Division 1) and Drysdale’s Tess Craven (under-15 Division 2) were crowned winners.
