Honouring everyday heroes

-

HEROES aren’t always found on the football field or in the operating room. They can be living next door or be a person you pass at the school drop-off.

To uncover the nation’s unsung heroes, News Corp Australia, publisher of the Geelong Advertiser, is partnering with Australia Post and Seven News to stage the 2018 Pride of Australia Awards.

Now in their 14th year, the awards seek to unearth and honour ordinary Australians who make an extraordinary contribution to communities.

Since 2005, News Corp has honoured more than 650 Australians, chosen from among tens of thousands of nominees.

This year’s program begins today and there is a sevenweek nomination period.

Pride of Australia stories will be published in the Geelong Advertiser and also broadcast on Seven News each week.

Last year local 12-year-old surfer Mila Guerrero, who saved two drowning tourists at Lorne, was one of seven Victorian winners of the award.

News Corp Australia community ambassador Penny Fowler urged Australians to nominate people in their communities.

“Our readers are constantly inspired by their stories of hope, courage, passion and persistence,” she said “These individuals are helping build a better Australia for us all.”

Seven Network Director News and Public Affairs Craig McPherson said: “In our clouded world it will be enlightening to bring to mainstream Australia these untold true stories of real people doing extraordinary ACROSS 1 The highest places in the oval have 1000 platforms Part of a coat one may copy in the fifties 8 Classify out of anger 11 A large quick gain from
