Local women targeted

Police hunt ‘well-spoken’ pervert in Geelong region

- CHAD VAN ESTROP

A SELF-CONFESSED stalker who admits fantasising about “girls” is being hunted by police after sending a series of disturbing letters and voicemail messages to businesses in Torquay and Melbourne.

The “white-haired man” has penned more than 19 sexually explicit handwritten let- ters to women working in clothing stores, hair salons and beauty stores, and has targeted women in Torquay, Anglesea and Geelong, police say.

More letters and messages have been sent since police went public with their investigation last month.

In one message, the man “Peter” said he fantasised about girls “doing massage”.

“Look ladies I’m just ringing to apologise I sent a terrible letter to you people and I’m deeply ashamed of it. I wrote it a weekend or so ago and sent it last week,” he said. “I just fantasised about you girls doing massage. I was just stupid and I’m terribly sorry to have caused you some concern. You won’t hear from me again.”

In another message he said: “Peter is my name. I sent you a letter some time ago detailing some of my activities and I just wondered if you’d like some photographs but I’ll ring you back another time.”

Fawkner Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team Detective Senior Constable Paul Woods said the calls were made from public pay phones — including one in the “western Geelong area” — in the past six months.

“Someone out there knows who this is,” Sen-Constable Woods told 3AW. “It’s also for him to perhaps listen to and realise just how serious this is and come forward.”

The content of the calls and the letters mean they are being investigated by sexual offences detectives, Sen-Constable Woods said.

“He initially started off with handwritten letters and it’s now escalating to phoning vic- tims. He’s not speaking to them directly, he’s leaving messages.”

Recordings of the voicemails indicate the man has a deep voice, an Australian accent and is well-spoken.
