TIME FOR AFL TO PUT THE BRAKES ON

-

I’M just a normal man who has to work, so I mainly only get time to watch my football team — I like to watch the top sides when they play each other.

I feel there is a real problem with our game.

To me it seems we have too many people reporting on the game and they are all looking for the perfect game every week and blow little incidents out of proportion.

If we had free running high scores every week we would become bored with our game. Another thing is I like to see contested football, two players battling it out. The problems I see are: 1. They have sped the game up too much and players have so many leg problems — they are men not machines.

2. I often wonder if the reason we can’t kick as many goals is because clubs have recruited athletes not actual footballers — or because we have sped the game up too much and the players are fatigued and can’t kick straight.

3. Congestion — I feel that the umpires contribute a lot to this problem when you have so many players around the ball there are so many free kicks. That shouldn’t be paid. The umpires should just throw the ball up straight away to stop the congestion.

For me the most frustrating thing about our game is the inconsistent umpiring.

It can be hard because of the pace of the game or because of packs but it’s the very obvious ones they miss that are so frustrating for fans,

The players are held to account, why shouldn’t the umpires be? Name and address withheld
