ROSSO, A MODERNIST MAN

- TESSA HAYWARD

WHAT does a cool modernist house in Hamlyn Heights and a comedian have in common?

Well nothing, really, but comedian Tim ‘Rosso’ Ross has decided to combine the two to create a hilarious show in a spectacular mid-century home.

The Mid Century Project Geelong will include Ross’s hit show Man About the House, performed with musician Kit Warhurst and mid-century inspired film installations.

Or as he describes it — “Have a laugh, have a drink and indulge in some great architecture”.

The location for Ross’s show on December 1 is a rejuvenated 1960s brick house in Hamlyn Heights.

Studio 101 Architects’ Peter Woolard not only owns the house but is the one that brought it back to life.

The two, Ross and Woolard, strangely met in Los Angeles a few years ago when they were both on holidays.

That chance meeting will now bring Ross, a Cats supporter, to Geelong for two shows.

“We will be turning the house into a temporary theatre and gallery … people have really responded to this type of show well over the years, people like going into other people’s houses,” Ross said.

“The idea is you get to come along and hang out in the house and we put on a show which is funny.”

The 1960s house was thought to be originally based on the Lend Lease model ‘Pan Pacific’ by architect Nino Sydney.

The property was listed for sale earlier this year but was taken off the market in June.

Mr Woolard said they would consider putting it back on the market if they found another dream home to renovate.

“We are happy to stay there for now and the kids love living there, especially now that it is not under construction,” he said.

Tickets are still available for the show on Saturday, December 1. Go to tickets.themanaboutthehouse.net.
