SLSC ELECTION PLEDGE
Libs to give $500k for Anglesea redevelopment
AN elected Liberal Nationals State Government will throw a $500,000 lifeline to the Anglesea Surf Lifesaving Club.
Shadow Minister for Emergency Services Brad Battin this weekend announced the election pledge, to be put towards the refurbishment of the Surf Coast club’s operations and training centre.
The funds will also allow the club to expand its community outreach and partnership programs, and would complement a previous $1.5 million State Government grant through the Life Saving Facility Development Fund.
“Anglesea Surf Lifesaving Club is a massive community focal point and it deserves the best facilities to continue the excellent work done by its staff and local members,” Mr Battin said on Saturday. “Today’s announcement gives certainty to Anglesea Surf Lifesaving Club and will ensure the ongoing viability and success of the Club for generations to come.”
Polwarth MP Richard Riordan said the 60-year-old surf lifesaving club was deserving of further funding support.
“ASLSC has a wonderful culture amongst its members, a culture that is inclusive and promotes respect and integrity, not just through words but also through actions,” Mr Riordan said.
“For 66 years, Anglesea Surf Lifesaving Club has delivered lifesaving emergency services for our community. Now with more than 2000 members, local residents, school students, community groups and visitors can benefit from the programs and services that the club provides.
“I am proud to be part of a Liberal Nationals team led by Matthew Guy that truly appreciates and supports our vital volunteers.”
The Victorian Election will be held on Saturday, November 24.
The pledge comes a year after the Surf Coast Shire ticked off on the club’s $5 million expansion plans, with a section of the ageing clubrooms to be demolished and replaced with a state-ofthe-art facility.
The complex had been rated as one of 10 in the state most in need for a major upgrade by Life Saving Victoria.
The redevelopment is expected to take several years to complete, with construction taking up to 12 months.
