GEELONG A PITCH PERFECT VENUE
GEELONG will host Asia Pacific’s biggest start-up pitch competition next month, with tech titans and young entrepreneurs battling it out for $1 million in investment opportunities.
The regional Victorian final of the StartCon Pitch for $1 Million competition will be held at Deakin University’s Waterfront campus on October 25.
More than 600 finalists and 400 investors are expected to attend the 14-event finals series, spread across cities in Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea, China, India, the Philippines and New Zealand.
Apart from the competition itself, the local event will include workshop masterclasses, business expos, a networking party and keynote presentations from leading start-up players, including AgriWebb founder and CEO Kevin Baum.
The event will be presented by StartCon and Right Click Capital are running the event in partnership with the SPARK Deakin start-up initiative and supported by Deakin ManuFutures and City of Greater Geelong.
Deakin University Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute co-director, Professor Svetha Venkatesh, will be sharing her insights into the future of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Prof Venkatesh’s work has led to the implementation of two successful start-ups, including the award-winning iCetena video analytics service, using artificial intelligence and machine learning to monitor large video surveillance networks for abnormalities and potential security threats.
“The event will allow entrepreneurs from across the region to tap into that transformational knowledge,” Prof Venkatesh said.
