Fill The Flute getting ready for Moonee nights

-

FRESHWATER Creek trainer Jamie Edwards will target summer sprint races at Moonee Valley with Fill The Flute.

The talented four-year-old speedster heads to Morphettville today to contest the $30,000 Dominant Handicap (1100m), using the race as a stepping stone to the Moonee Valley night meetings.

“There’s an ideal race for her in two weeks in Melbourne and it was either go a month between runs or go somewhere in between … and I thought this was an ideal chance to give her a crack at a metro race,” Edwards said of his South Australian adventure.

“The top weight of (Tony) McEvoy’s (Domination) looks hard to beat but it’s only got provincial form. There’s not genuine Saturday city form down there and there doesn’t look to be any genuine spring horses.

“If I ran her in Melbourne then you’re every chance of getting spring horses in the race. It’s a bit of a roll of the dice and it will tell me where I am at with her as well. She seems to be going all right.”

Fill The Flute won impressively at Geelong last start, putting away a benchmark 58 field by five lengths. The mare has drawn barrier eight with former stable apprentice Georgie Cartwright booked to ride.

She will race with 55kg after Cartwright’s claim.

“The hardest to beat is drawn one inside us and it goes forward as well.

“You just barrel out, take your time and watch what it’s doing,” Edwards said.

“All the speed in the race is coming out of seven and eight. You barrel out, eyeball each other and one will take the sit off the other one. I think she gets in OK with the claim, drops 5kg on her last start, ran time last start which is good.

“If she travels OK then she will go as good as she can go.”

Edwards admitted there was not much improvement left with Fill The Flute, but was confident she would be competitive this preparation.

“I haven’t got anything left in the tank. She raced really well first up and I don’t know if she can go any better than that,” Edwards said.
